A member of the Kowloon Union Church, Dr. Bernard Ng, put forward the idea of setting up services for people with
intellectual disabilities on the premises of the Church. In an Extraordinary General Meeting in October, the Church formally showed its support for the establishment of a day care centre for this target group and formed an organizing committee to work on it. |

Kowloon Union Church Wai Ji Training Centre (now known as Wai Ji Christian Service) was established in the Church to provide half-day training service for people with
intellectual disabilities. |
| 1984 |
The Training Centre gained subvention from the Social Welfare Department. It moved to Nam Shan Estate, Shek Kip Mei, and became a whole-day training centre. |
| 1986 |
The first volunteer-aided Gateway Club was formed in Nam Shan Centre to provide social and recreational activities for people with
intellectual disabilities. |
| 1988 |
Home-Based Training Team gained recognition and subvention from the Social Welfare Department. |
| 1989 |
The first sheltered workshop cum hostel was opened on Long Ping Estate, Yuen Long, providing 140 places for workers and 50 places for residents. |
| 1990 |
The first day activity centre cum hostel, which had a capacity of 50 persons, was opened on Po Lam Estate, Tseung Kwan O. |
| 1991 |
The second Gateway Club was formed on Long Ping Estate, Yuen Long. |
| 1992 |
Respite Care Service was initiated. There were four places, two in Long Ping Hostel and two in Po Lam Hostel. |
| 1993 |
The agency took over the Tai Hang Tung Day Activity Centre of the Social Welfare Department.
Tin King Bradbury Centre cum Hostel was opened. |
| 1994 |
Supported Employment Service was initiated.
On Ting Day Activity Centre cum Hostel was opened.
Sham Shui Po Local Advisory Committee was set up.
The Gateway Club at Po Lam, Tseung Kwan O was formed. |

The Agency was formally renamed as "Wai Ji Christian Service" and it was incorporated as a limited company.
The Gateway Club at Tuen Mun was formed.
Tin King Hostel provided two places of Respite Care Service. |

Supported Employment Service gained full subvention from the Social Welfare Department.
Supported Hostel I & II at Yuet Ping were opened.
Hor Ping Sheltered Workshop cum Hostel was opened.
Occupational Therapy Service was introduced.

Community Rehabilitation Support Service was introduced. |

Long Ping Sheltered Workshop was converted into an integrated vocational rehabilitation service centre and renamed House of Arts and Skills. |

The office and activity centre of Home Based Training and Support Service Team moved to Siu Hong West Rail Station. The team was renamed Wai Ji Mutual Support Network. |

Tseung Kwan O Integrated Rehabilitation Services Centre was opened. |

Mei Tin Integrated Rehabilitation Services Centre was opened. |

Home Based Training and Support
Service Team was converted into district support
